Good day members - hope you are all doing well and enjoying getting back to squash! Up until now we have kept the showers and changing areas closed to ensure we follow COVID recommendations from Sport England, England Squash and quite frankly to help us keep the facility easily cleaned as there is a higher frequency of cleaning required. As time has progressed and after discussions with other clubs and understanding how they are moving forwards we have decided to RE-OPEN THE SHOWERING / CHANGING areas however there are guidelines & rules that will be in place. 1. If possible please do continue to use your home facilities to change - we still want to limit usage if possible, however we also understand this is not always possible / not convenient - hence we are taking this step. 2. Total occupancy of the club (to ensure we observe social distancing) was previously 9 people, given people will be using the changing areas as well - this has been increased 15 people in the club at any one time. Please keep this in mind and do not be on the premises for any longer than you have to be after using the courts / facilities. 3. You will notice red tape in areas of the changing rooms (on the pegs)- this indicates "OUT OF BOUNDS AREAS" This is to ensure social distancing is observed whilst in the changing area. Please do not sit / use the benches / pegs in these areas. 4. Occupancy In the gents changing rooms - no more than 4 people changing / showering at one time. Only two alternate shower cubicles will be in use (the other two locked) to ensure distancing is in place and to lessen the demand on cleaning 5. Occupancy In the ladies changing rooms - no more than 2 people changing / showering at one time. Only two alternate shower cubicles will be in use (the other locked) to ensure distancing is in place and to lessen the demand on cleaning 6. **This is the most important one!!!** You will notice mops and buckets will now be present in the changing room - please ensure that you clean / mop up after yourselves and any excess water is mopped away , the shower cubicle cleaned and the floors and changing area are all kept in a decent state. If this is NOT ADHERED TO - WE WILL HAVE TO CLOSE CHANGING AREAS AGAIN! This is positive move forwards and hopefully makes things a little more convenient when using the squash facilities - but please do observe the above mentioned guidelines - if we see non-adherence we will need to back this step out. Finally - we are looking for members that might help clean the facility of the evening - if there are any volunteers, it would be really useful. It only takes 30 mins and would just help take the load off a few individuals that are helping currently. Please drop me (Stuart) a text or email if you can help. If there are any question - please reach out to myself or a member of the committee! Cheers Stu

As we return to court and on the backdrop of covid, we have to put in place social distance games.

England Squash have released new guidelines for these games and drills and they are as follows:

1. Game of sides:

2. Socially distanced practices for more advanced players

Here are some recommended practices that more advanced players from two different households can play, designed to comply with social distancing measures.

  1. Cross court volleys Both players volley the ball cross court to each other from behind the service box. Switch sides. To make it easier, move closer to the front wall. To make it harder, move further away from the front wall. Make it cooperative: Aim for as many volleys in a row as possible. Switch sides and see if you can beat your previous total.

  2. Straight to self then cross court volley Stood behind the service box, both players play two shots, volley straight to self then cross court to your opponent. Switch sides.

  3. Straight lob vs straight volley drop Front player plays straight lobs and back player plays straight volley drops. Alternate and switch sides.

  4. Boast vs straight drive Front player plays straight drives. Back player boasts. Alternate. Make it competitive: Front player can play straight or cross court, back player must always boast. First to reach 7 points wins.

  5. Drive or cross court drive vs boast or drop Front player can play a straight or cross court drive. Back player can play a straight drop or boast. Alternate.

  6. Straight drop then straight drive vs straight to self then boast Front player plays two shots, a straight drop followed by a straight drive. Back player plays two shots, a straight drive followed by a boast. Alternate.

  7. Straight drop then cross court deep vs straight to self then boast Front player plays two shots, a straigh

t drop followed by any shot cross court deep. Back player plays two shots, a straight drive followed by a boast. Alternate and switch sides.

  1. Front vs back on one side Front player can play any straight shot deep. Back player can play a straight shot short. Alternate and switch sides.

  2. Front vs back on both sides Front player can play straight or cross court. Back player must always play straight shot short. Alternate. Make it competitive: Front player can play straight or cross court deep, the back player must always play straight short. First to reach 7 points wins.

All,

As we return to playing squash at Cheam, i just thought it would be worth documenting the cleaning schedule that we will have in place and also the responsibilities of the members using the courts.

In terms of cleaning that will be in place, the courts and open areas (hallway and viewing gallery) will be cleaned first thing in the morning and also last thing at night.

Your responsibilities..... During the day - as you enter onto courts - please use the wipes provided to wipe down the entrance door handle on entrance and also clean any areas you touch on exit of the courts.

You will also notice that court maintenance time is booked out between bookable court slots - this is to give the courts time to circulate air before the next booking.

The wipes to be used can be found on shelves outside of court 1 and court 2.

Could i also ask that you dispose of the wipes into the bins provided. The bins will also be emptied at the end of each day.

Thanks and see you on court soon!

Stu.
